The Tate Modern’s much anticipated Damien Hirst exhibition will be running between April and September this year, and to pay homage to the Bristol born artist’s roots, the gallery will be serving a specially curated British drinks list.
Luckily the Tate’s bar manager and drinks buyer Alex Stevenson isn’t taking the theme too literally, so there won’t be any deftly shaken shots of formaldehyde making their way into classic cocktails.
Instead, expect to see spirits and liqueurs from English producers such as Bramley & Gage, Chase, Sipsmith, The Somerset Cider Brandy Company and Compass Box expertly crafted into drinks that will change as the British summertime comes and goes.
As it stands The Tate Modern’s beer list is already completely British, with Alex getting in on the act himself, brewing up a few specials with craft brewers such as North London’s James Brodie.
This delightful list will be beefed up for the exhibition, and if these these extra brews do well they may well stay put.
The wine list will similarly get a revision that may well result in some permanent British fixtures, so if the Olympics has got you feeling all patriotic, indulging at The Tate sounds like a comfortable way to show your support.
The British drinks list will be listed in Café, Members room and L7 bar at The Tate Modern. For further info visit the Tate Modern website.
