Established for over 150 years, the Lion Brewery is back in private hands since its purchase by Castle Eden Brewery in 2002, a move out of which the new Camerons Brewery was born.

As well as its major 500,000 barrel site, ther’s a Mini Me on site, a 10-barrel micro called The Lions Den. Water is sourced from the brewery’s own well, in operation since the Lion Brewery first opened for business in 1852, and the Scottish and Yorkshire barley is malted locally.

A wide range of draught and bottled beers are produced including a number of popular seasonals, with the flagship Strongarm ruby ale having been in production since 1955.

Another popular brew, 6th Sense, is named in deference to the many ghost tales that surround the brewery.

With interactive displays and a nice airy feel, Camerons Visitor Centre is making good use of what used to be the Stranton pub. Ninety-minute tours begin here from Monday to Thursday, before heading into the impressive marble-lined brew hall, finishing with a sample or two in the bar.

Weekend and Friday tours can be arranged for groups larger than 30.
