It’s over 400 years since King James 1 gave the original grant for Sir Thomas Philips to distill whiskey in the Bushmills region. Many other things will have moved on, but the methods of distillation haven’t changed much. Bushmills still distills three times, retains its elegant, long-necked stills, and continues to lay great store in its cask selection for the all important maturation phase.
Bushmills produces both blends and single malts – the only Irish distillery to do so. Tours run every day at frequent intervals, affording you the chance to see the distillery in action, followed by a wee dram in the 1608 Bar. There’s also the chance to compare and contrast with a Tasting Experience. With this, you can try a nip of three Bushmills, alongside a Bourbon and Scotch.
For a bite to eat and if you arrive early before your tour, The Distillery Kitchen serves teas, coffees and light meals throughout the day.
