Tamdhu Ten Year Old
Tamdhu distillery has, until recently, been overshadowed by its erstwhile stablemates Macallan and Highland Park. Now new owners Ian Macleod Distillers have re-packaged it and pushed it into the spotlight.
The retro-stylish packaging, which aims to remind us of the late Victorian era when the distillery was built, is certainly very distinctive. But what about the whisky?
This is a lovely dram. Classically Speyside in style, with a combination of fresh, fruity notes and clear cut barley wrapped up in very fine sherry flavours. The balance between the elements is great, with an interplay between fresh and dried fruit notes backed up by a wee trace of earthy peat.
The combination of stylish bottle and mellow, rounded whisky make this one an ideal dram with which to round off a dinner party.
