Houston Peter's Well

A refreshing pint of Houston Peters Well

Peter's Well is the flagship beer of the Houston Brewing Company, and has a string of awards to its name, including SIBA Champion Best Bitter of Scotland, as well as taking third place in CAMRA's 2011 Champion Beer of Scotland competition. It certainly looks the part, a dark gold colour with a good frothy head, which comes in part from the inclusion of wheat in the mash.

There are plenty of flowery hops on the nose, alongside a distinctly tropical fruitiness, and the palate confirms that this is a beer which has been brewed with aroma in mind rather than bitterness. It is light to medium bodied, with just enough bittering hops included to give it a pleasantly dry finish,

This is a style of beer which makes a great session ale, as well as being very food friendly. Try it with a lightly spiced aubergine and potato curry - rather moreish!

available on draught at brewery tap, Fox & Hounds, and selected real ale bars in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen.
