ale, lager, stout, porter, mild, barley wine – the list is almost endless!

The Swan Beer Festival

6 September 2013 - 8 September 2013

The Swan Inn at Stratford St Mary in Suffolk is holding its first beer festival since being bought by beer doyen, Mark Dorber.

Renowned for introducing great beer to a wider audience during his tenure at The White Horse at Parsons Green, Dorber’s new gaff already boasts up to 70 bottled beers, 10 taps, plus wine and beer matching tips for every dish on the locally-sourced menu.

The White Swan

Perhaps it's because of its seafaring nature, Portsmouth isn't short of a fine pub or two. So The White Swan in its previous Wetherspoon guise was one of several fine hostelries.

Now it's gone one step better though – it's installed a gleaming brewkit, centre-stage, right by the door as you go in.

What's more, not only can you watch the brewers at work, headed by talented Mark Wainwright, you can join in. Next time you are in, ask about the B&K Brewery Day Experience.

Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival

5 September 2013 - 15 September 2013

Once more the residents of Brighton & Hove are putting on a food and drink spectacular for locals and visitors alike this September. With some of England's finest beers, wines and ciders on its doorstep, not to mention some of the most creative chefs this side of the world, this is a must for any food and drink lover.

I've got my eye on the Harveys Beer & Foraging Dinner, the evening or Regency Wine & Cheese with Mr Butler and Mr Deaves, to kick it all off, the Bitter & Twisted local beer and cider evening, and to finish proceedings – of course – the Brighton Beer & Cider Festival.

Beer by the River

14 September 2013

To celebrate its fifth birthday, Sambrook's Brewery is teaming up with the National Trust to host Beer by the River at Morden Hall Park in south London.

Sitting next to the River Wandle, the name which graces Sambrook's flagship beer, Morden Hall Park was a natural choice for brewery founder Duncan Sambrook. A wildlife haven in its own right, it comes complete with a historic, restored waterwheel and plenty of places for the kids to play.

Kingston Food Festival

3 August 2013 - 11 August 2013

Local drinks old and new add a dose of liquid style to this year’s Kingston Food Festival as it heads into its final weekend.

Along with organic – and award-winning – stalwarts Sedlescombe Vineyard, I can vouch for the tasty brews from new Guildford-based nano-brewery, The Little Beer Corporation, There’s also traditional cider crafted from from East Kent cider apples from the Battle crew, and a delectable range of Blackwood spirits from the ever innovative Sarah at Lurgashall winery.
